Nelson Academy Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  We are excited to welcome students and their families to what will be a fun, active, and academic year. By learning about and sharing our students, our families and our staffs’ interests and talents, we will have a strong Nelson community.  We appreciate your support, and we look forward to partnering with you to make this school year great!

We will be utilizing many ways to communicate with families this year. We ask that you continue to check this website often and read all emails we send as well as listen to the automated messages we send through School Messenger.  These are effective and efficient ways for us to get new information out to our families. It is critical that all of your contact  information is up to date so that we can reach you. Please login to ParentVue and update your email address and phone numbers. If you need to update your home address, please contact our office for an appointment to bring in the necessary documentation so we can update your information. We will continue to use the communication tools within our CANVAS system. We request that you create an account and “pair” it with each of your students so you have access to current grades, see feedback teachers provide your student on assignments, and easily communicate with teachers. We have a workshop scheduled on September 8, 2022 to demonstrate how to best use the CANVAS system and help you pair with your student’s account. Families will also be sent a link to the Nelson Monday Morning Message (MMM), each Monday morning at about 10:00 am. MMM provides students and families information about our community building efforts, important information about upcoming events, and celebrations of our work. Please set aside about ten minutes each week to view MMM.

As the school year progresses, please participate in parent meetings/workshops, School Site Council meetings, English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings, Knight of the Month celebrations and many more events.

Nelson Academy staff is available to assist you each school day via phone at (562) 591-6041. Our office is also open to the Nelson community each school day from 7:30 am to 3:45 pm.
